Microsoft Internet Explorer 8: Automated Troubleshooting & "Fix-it for Me" Resources

In the past few days I've had to forward these links to a number of people . . . so it must be time to document Microsoft's Internet Explorer 8's Automated Troubleshooting Services & "Fix-it for Me" Resources

Microsoft's Automated Troubleshooting Services:

    • Microsoft Product Support Reports - Microsoft Fix it tool to automatically collect system configuration information for use by IT and Support Professionals to troubleshoot issues with Microsoft Windows, Exchange, and SQL Server.

Microsoft's "Fix-it for Me" Solutions:

    • KB282402 - Enable 10 Internet Explorer Download Sessions (Default = 6)

    • KB813444 - Cannot log in to or connect to secured Web sites

    • KB813444 - Re-registering Internet Explorer .DLL Files

    • KB822521 - Disable Internet Explorer Script Debugging

    • KB923737 - Reset Internet Explorer Settings

    • KB945402 - The Internet Explorer icon is missing from your desktop

    • KB957700 - Uninstall or remove Internet Explorer 8 -

    • KB962963 - Cannot move Menu Toolbar to top of window.

Known 3rd Party Issues:

    • KB968129 - Error message about the Skype 3.8 IE Plugin when you start Internet Explorer 8: "Internet Explorer 8 is in a special no-add-ons mode so that you can fix a compatibility problem with Skype 3.8 IE Plugin" (NOTE: Ensure Skype is updated.)

    • KB968136 - How to fix incompatibility problems between Internet Explorer 8 and the Google Toolbar  (NOTE: Ensure Google Toolbar is updated.)KB968513 - Internet Explorer 8 may prompt you with the following message when you type inside the Address bar: "Download Windows Search to improve history and favorites results" (NOTE: May require Windows Search.)

    • KB968916 - The PDFCreator Toolbar add-on may not be compatible with Internet Explorer 8.  (NOTE: Ensure PDFCreator Toolbar is updated.)KB969227 - Compatibility issues with HP Smart Web Printing  (NOTE: Ensure HP Smart Web Printing is updated.)

    • KB970962 - Internet Explorer 8 may stop responding or crash when a certain version of AVG Safe Search is installed. (NOTE: Ensure AVG Software is updated.)
