More than 2,200 Microsoft employees have donated $410,000 to more than 110 organizations bringing relief to earthquake-ravaged Haiti, the company said Monday.
With Microsoft pledging to match employee donations, that figure will at least double, Microsoft spokesman Lou Gellos said. Plus, employee donations are expected to continue.
Microsoft, as a corporation, already donated $1.25 million to relief efforts in Haiti, where a 7.0 earthquake last week killed thousands and displaced thousands more. That brings the total being donated by Microsoft and its employees to $2.07 million so far.
Over the weekend, seattlepi.com reporter Levi Pulkkinen and photographer Joshua Trujillo traveled with a Fort Lewis McChord Air Force Base cargo plane to Haiti, where troops delivered supplies and evacuated refugees. Read Pulkkinen's report here and view Trujillo's photo gallery here.
