In order to improve customer support and experience, to increase hassle free computing, Microsoft integrated a lot of new automatic troubleshooting features in Windows 7 which makes it a “Self Healing” OS. Yes, now you have no more requirement to call a technician or a computer guy to fix your computer, your Windows is now smart enough to handle all by itself.
Basic Self Healing
There are lot of options which performs self healing tasks. Some options are available in ‘Action Center’ like ‘Troubleshooters’ which is capable of detecting and fixing the problems automatically. All you have to do is to select a right Troubleshooter for you and run it. Most of the time Windows itself suggest it.
To use a Troubleshooter, follow the following steps:
- Open Action Center from Control Panel or by clicking the Flag icon from notification icons area.
- Click on Troubleshooting option and then select any Troubleshooter according to your problem type i.e. whether it is related to display, sound, compatibility or any other.
- Follow the steps and use it to fix your problems automatically.
Recovery using System Restore option is also a good feature to fix serious issues and using it is not a lot more easier now. For using Recovery options navigate to Action Center. If you have some serious issues then use Advance System Restore options.
The advanced methods available in Recovery in Control Panel can return Windows to a usable state if it's badly damaged.
The first method uses a type of backup called a system image, which you need to have created earlier. The Advanced Restore method reinstalls Windows, either from a recovery image provided by your computer manufacturer, or from the original Windows installation files.
To use Advance System Restore, follow the following steps:
- Open Action Center, then click on Recovery option.
- Then select Advanced recovery methods and choose the option wisely which suits you most.
Advanced Self Healing
There are lot more features which makes it a self healing OS, not only a self healer, I can say an Intelligent self healer.
While installation, Windows 7 creates a 100 MB system recovery partition automatically. The partition contains Boot files and it is also required if you want to use Bitlocker without having a TPM microchip installed.
Windows 7 creates this partition to self heal from the boot file missing options. Windows XP user faces a lot of problems related to ‘Bootmgr’ or ‘Ntldr’ file missing but thanks to Windows 7, this will not bother you anymore. Windows 7 is capable to tackle with such problems by itself.
F8 Booting options
Press F8 before the system boots to get these options. there are various options available to deal with your issues. My favorite one is Repair your Computer. Select it and hit Enter and you have the list of new repair options.
Start up Repair is the best one to use first. it will automatically fixes the most common issues.
The new Windows Backup program is also the best tool to take image backups of your PC regularly.
Incase you crashed your Windows 7 PC (that’s a very rare situation to face). Do Not Panic, just restart your system and sit calmly, It will automatically recover from any type of crashes.
Welcome to the world of intelligence, Welcome to the World of Windows 7.
