Ray Ozzie leaving post as Microsoft's chief software architect

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer today announced that Ray Ozzie, Bill Gates' replacement as the company's chief software architect, will be stepping down from his post.

His leadership not particularly well-respected among employees in the trenches, Ozzie joined Microsoft in 2005 when the software giant acquired his Groove Networks. Ozzie took over as Microsoft's chief software architect in 2006 when Gates, who still is chairman, announced his impending retirement from day-to-day activities at Microsoft. (Steve Ballmer assumed Gates' other role as CEO in 2000.)
