Facebook pips Google for best tech company to work at

Facebook has become the best technology workplace in Silicon Valley, says BusinessInsider, pipping Google for the first time.

According to the updated list, published today by BusinessInsider and based off job review site Glassdoor's rankings, Facebook now reigns supreme over Google as the hottest place to work (they previously didn't meet the required level of 25 reviews), with a 92% approval rate of CEO Mark Zuckerberg and a 4.4 out of 5 rating. One employee labelled the company's environment "incredibly collaborative" and says it has managers who are "very hands off".

"The people here are both brilliant and humble, making for an incredibly collaborative environment for building awesome new stuff," one employer wrote on Glassdoor.

"Management process is also great - very hands off, lots of freedom to the engineers to work on what they are interested in, make important decisions. Lots of trust and responsibility in engineers."

Google -- renown for its luxury perks including free food and services -- has slipped to number two with an approval rating of 3.9 out of 5 and a 97% approval rating of CEO Eric Schmidt, with employers citing senior management as being "arrogant" and a lack of career progression plans as worrying.

"Management is one of the worse around for the all offices across the globe. There is no career plan nor development for most Googlers and therefore the best people are leaving the company at a fast rate," another past employee wrote.

Apple rounds out the top five on the list, while Adobe sits at number three with one employee working at the company writing that they are "great at fostering a collegial, collaborative environment, respecting its workers, and taking the time to think problems through." Microsoft sits at number 12, offering "Great benefits [and] definite growth potential" but often leaves employees "feel[ing] like a fish in a large pond".
