Microsoft Joulemeter Calculates PC’s Power Consumption

Joulemeter is software to estimate the power consumption of your computer. It tracks computer resources, such as CPU utilization and screen brightness, and estimates power usage. Project details are available at http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/projects/joulemeter/default.aspx.

With Joulemeter you can view the minimum power required to power on your computer along with additional power usage by HDD, Monitor and CPU. On top of that, the tool calculates the average of the total power drawn over time, since installation of Joulemeter.

In order to get accurate power consumption information, you need to run the calibrate test first. Use the Calibrate tool present in Joulemeter to learn a power model for your machine to get more accurate power data.

The tool also estimates total duration for which your computer was slept and awake. While the Time Slept includes time when the machine was in sleep, hibernate, or shutdown modes, Time Awake indicates the total duration for which the machine was on.
