Google Launches Gmail for iPad

Google has launched a dedicated Gmail interface for tablet PCs such as iPad, known as Gmail for iPad. iPad launch was a huge success and since many people will now use iPad as their handy computer, Google has developed a Gmail interface that would fit better and work fine with iPad. The Gmail for iPad is a 2-pane design where the left pane contains the emails with excerpts and the right pane displays the full message body.

Gmail for iPad application, having a design similar to Apple’s official Mail app for iPad, works on iPad tablet PC only. However, you can still use it on your desktop or notebook by editing your web browser’s “user agent” info. We will use this trick to make Gmail think that you are using an iPad.

Firefox users can install User Agent Switcher extension to modify the user agent string.

Google Chrome users can edit the Google Chrome shortcut and add the following string to the end of Target field:

-user-agent=”Mozilla/5.0(iPad; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/531.21.10 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.4 Mobile/7B314 Safari/531.21.10″

For Safari browser, change your user agent string to:

Mozilla/5.0(iPad; U; CPU iPhone
OS 3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/531.21.10 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.4 Mobile/7B314 Safari/531.21.10
