Internet Explorer Cumulative Update Expected on 30 March 2010

The Microsoft Security Response Center has given everyone a heads up at their team blog about what they call an Out-of-Band (not scheduled) release for an Internet Explorer Cumulative Update Releasing Out-of-Band update.

This update is in response to Microsoft Security Advisory (981374) which is a vulnerability in Internet Explorer which could allow remote code execution.

Now IE8 is unaffected by this issue however, IE6 and IE7 are.  Another good reason to consider upgrading to the latest version of IE or to another current browser of your choice.

For customers using automatic updates, this update will automatically be applied once it is released. Additionally, because Security Bulletin MS10-18 is a cumulative update, it will also address nine other vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer that were planned for release on April 13.

So not only are we getting the update for this security issue but also updates for nine other issues that were to be addressed on April’s Patch Tuesday on 13 April 2010.
